The House of Commons has voted in favour of building the proposed third runway at Heathrow, paving the way for Bridgend County Borough to push forward its bid to become one of Heathrow’s Logistics Expansion Hubs.

The four hubs will play an integral role in Heathrow’s expansion through pre-assembling components for the development, and a successful bid would present significant opportunities for business across the county borough.

Officers from Heathrow were last week hosted by representatives from Welsh Government, Bridgend Ford, Bridgend College, Bridgend Business Forum and Bridgend County Borough Council, as part of the assessment process of the sites in the running.

Deputy Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, Councillor Hywel Williams, said: “The expansion of Heathrow is a major opportunity, and alongside our partners we have put up a very strong case for Bridgend County Borough to become one of its Logistics Expansion Hubs.

“Bridgend County Borough is a great place to do business, and we’re sure that the benefits of locating a hub here have resonated with officers from Heathrow.”
