Finalists unveiled for Bridgend Business Forum Awards 2017

The finalists for the fifth Bridgend Business Forum Awards have been revealed.

Leading the nominations are Kontroltek Ltd, Scott Waste, House of Callway and Wales Interactive – all of which have been shortlisted in two categories.

In all, there are 19 finalists across eight categories, which includes: start-up business of the year, service business of the year and entrepreneur of the year, with Porthcawl Surf School, A&R Contract Cleaning Specialist Ltd, and Bang on Brewery Ltd, among the businesses shortlisted.

Fourteen businesses will then compete for the coveted Bridgend Business of the Year 2017, chosen from amongst the winners of each category.

Sponsored by Bridgend College and supported by Bridgend County Borough Council, the 2017 awards will take place on Friday 29 September at the Coed-Y-Mwstwr Hotel, Bridgend. The glittering ceremony will be hosted by BBC TV presenter and journalist Sian Lloyd.

Following a rigorous judging process, the panel – consisting of the 2017 sponsors and Bridgend Business Forum representatives – selected finalists from across a range of sectors.

The all-important shortlisted businesses and individuals include:

Business Student of the Year, sponsored by Rockwool Ltd:-

Start-up Business of the Year, sponsored by ISA Training

Service Business of the Year, sponsored by Berry Smith Lawyers

Manufacturing Business of the Year, sponsored by EEF, the manufacturer’s organization

Bridgend Tourism Business of the Year, sponsored by Handelsbanken

Creative Industries Award, sponsored by ION Leadership

Innovative Business of the Year, sponsored by Harris Bassett

The winner of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award, which is sponsored by SME Finance Partners, will be formally announced at the awards ceremony in September.

Ian Jessopp, Chair of Bridgend Business Forum, said: “The forum awards celebrate the very best of business in Bridgend and provide an opportunity for new and established businesses across a variety of sectors, to showcase their work, services and products - all of which are contributing to a prosperous Welsh economy.

“The awards are a really significant date in our calendar year as we believe it is vital to recognise the achievements of Bridgend businesses. As a forum, our priority is to continue to support all businesses to encourage growth, and ultimately success.

“We’ve had another strong response to this year’s awards; the quality of applications has been extremely exciting, particularly as many were from businesses that hadn’t entered previously. As a panel, we believe we have selected deserving winners and runners-up and look forward to celebrating their achievements in September.”

Bridgend County Borough Council Leader, Councillor Huw David, added: “These awards continue to recognise the vital role that businesses, entrepreneurs and employees play in creating a strong economy here in Bridgend.

“The calibre, passion and commitment of the businesses that entered these awards is phenomenal, and demonstrates that Bridgend is open to business and indeed thriving.
