If you go down to Porthcawl this summer you may be in for a big surprise, in the shape of giant sea creatures!

Keep your eyes peeled for the gargantuan guests, who will be helping to bring the town’s seafront to life as part of the Wales-wide ‘Year of the Sea’ campaign, which aims to celebrate the country’s outstanding coastline.

Bridgend County Borough Council is working with Awen Cultural Trust and Credu Charity Ltd to plan a summer of dynamic and engaging activities and experiences to help create a buzz throughout the seaside town.

The campaign kicked off in Porthcawl last month with a bay swim, ‘aquathlon event’ and beach clean to celebrate World Ocean Day, and there’s plenty more fun in store including street theatre, a modern twist on traditional seaside postcards and much more.

This project has received funding via the Regional Tourism Engagement Fund (RTEF) and support through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the Welsh Government, the Fund to improve the visitor experience and create stronger destinations by working together.
