A multi-million pound expansion of the current superfast broadband provision scheme in Wales – Superfast Cymru – will see over 42,000 more premises in business parks and industrial estates across the country benefitting from a superfast internet connection.

So far, Superfast Cymru has brought faster broadband to over 610,000 Welsh premises, with the extra 42,000 to be set up by June 2017 under the extended provision.

Currently, the roll out of the fast fibre technology has brought faster broadband to some 89 per cent of homes and businesses across Bridgend County Borough.

The expansion is backed by £19m of funding made up of contributions from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and expected funding from the EU, while BT will also invest significant extra funding.

A key part of the UK Government’s plan for growth is to provide better infrastructure and connectivity to Wales to allow businesses to access the digital technology that has become a standard requirement for organisations operating in the digital age.  Digital technologies such as superfast broadband, the cloud and social media are enabling businesses to compete in busy markets, reduce costs and accelerate business growth.

As such, Superfast Business Wales has been set up as a fully-funded business support service to help small and medium sized Welsh businesses to exploit the array of digital technologies available through access to practical advice, information and support.

This free service aims to help businesses to identify the best digital solutions for their sector and includes an online 'digital needs' diagnostic with an Online Business Adviser, free practical workshops, tailored one-to-one support from an expert Digital Business Adviser and a full website review, all supported by a range of free to download online tools, guides, top tips and software directory.
